Free Critique - A Client's Comments______________________________ (The following are unsolicited comments from one of my resume critique clients.) "Thank you for the critique and I found it useful. I want to share the following with you, and feel free to use this on your site. About two years ago I had my resume professionally done locally, the person I used received allot of good PR in the wall street journal so I assumed she was reputable. I did receive a 4 page questionnaire to fill out and send it to her with my goals and resume. I believe she charged me around $400 for the rewrite." "The resume was terrible, I showed it to several people who could not determine what I did or what I had done. I called her with my concern and she made some minor corrections but nothing substantial and said that was her style of writing." "So needless to say I am little cautious this time around. Prior to finding your sight I did find a site offering a 'free' critique which I had never seen before and I expected a short list of comments and the 'sales pitch'. What I got was about 3 pages of what appeared at that time to be very worthwhile commentary, and I was pleasantly surprised and called her back and discussed her service." "While waiting on making a decision, I found your site and read your comments on why you charge and what the free critique is worth, so I was intrigued and wanted to see your unbiased perspective." "I compared your critique to hers and noticed that what you gave me were solid changes that made sense and would help me, what she gave me was a very general overview of what was wrong with my tone, lack of action verbs, incorrect verb tense. Although it seemed useful, compared to your notes it was almost useless." "I am not sure how much attention you paid to my most recent position but my current company is an IT recruiting firm, so reading and judging resumes is what I do all day and have done for the last six months. So I think I am pretty good judge of quality for a lay person and I agree totally with you about layout, resumix and other ATS programs issues. Most job seekers have no idea about these tools." "The bottom line is that I would like to have some assistance in getting the resume fixed, and I want to know your price. I look forward to hearing from you." Sincerely, |
