Entry
Level Resume
By Steve Burt
Certified Professional Resume Writer
______________________________
If you're a student and have related
experience to include on your entry level resume, great. However, it comes as
no big surprise to prospective employers when entry level applicants don't
have relevant work experience to include on their resumes.
If you don't have relevant work
experience in the form of internships, co-op positions, or regular
employment, how about your extracurricular activities? Chaired any committees
or held executive offices in a sorority or other organization? How about
community service activities? For example, if you're a finance major and
served as Treasurer for a campus organization, that's related experience.
Remember, related experience does NOT have to be PAID experience. What
matters is what you did, not whether you got paid for it or not.
Also, keep in mind that employers are
looking for "attitude", "motivation", and "leadership". Even if your only job
was flipping burgers, if you showed up for work on time, did your best, were
cheerful to customers, and worked well with your co-workers, you can show a
prospective employer you are the "type" of individual that will do a good
job.
Also remember that, as tough as college
seemed at times, many employers view this experience as a training ground. As
a new graduate, your new employer expects to train you. What your college
degree shows is that you are trainable.
